Cherry Picking Wines - How I Work

By leveraging my knowledge of wine I can actively seek out the best wines for my clients. I create mixed cases or sell in six bottle and case lots. I source wine from my local area as well as from Europe. By focusing on high-quality, small production releases I can ensure that my clients receive the best wine for their money. I will review thousands of wines this year offered through distributors, wineries and individuals. Quality always comes first, then price. If a wine is overpriced (and there are many that are) I won’t offer it to clients. I am able to ship Fedex to most areas of the country.

For an example of how I work for my clients, read on: Let’s say you enjoy BIG, broad-shouldered Cabernet Sauvignon. The best Cabernet Sauvignon (always with exceptions) tend to come from Napa. The BIG stuff also tends to come from mountain fruit, but also from the Rutherford Bench, Oakville and other valley floor areas. Spring Mountain, Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Sonoma Mountain (Laurel Glen) are likely candidates for long-lived intense Cabernet Sauvignon in years when it does not rain (as in 1998 and 2000). Robert Parker Jr. lists about 45 producers that are on the top of the pile year in and year out. These include Cabernet Sauvignon and blends (Meritage). Most Napa Cabernet Sauvignon releases are not 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. But they must have at least 75% Cabernet Sauvignon to be labeled as such. It is in this arena that I would look for Cabernet Sauvignon for my clients. Price is part of the equation with the likes of Chateau Montelena, Dunn, Lokoya, Araujo, Harlan, Diamond Mountain and many others commanding top dollar. There are also the Rustons, Reveries, Perrys, Fraziers and others that are very good and are not as pricey. I work with both quality and price and using the reviews, tastings and insider information as tools to assess I can ultimately acquire the best wines for clients. There are always emerging wineries that are worth watching and sampling - I keep my eyes on these too.
